Both parties reaffirmed their interest in strengthening the strategic relationship and in continuing and deepening our key bilateral programs. The U.S. delegation emphasized the importance of good governance and respect for democratic principles in all of our cooperation programs.
The Salvadoran Minister and Technical Secretary briefed U.S. officials on the current situation in El Salvador and on President Funes’ efforts to open a political dialogue with all parties in El Salvador toward a solution to the ongoing constitutional conflict.
U.S. officials welcomed President Funes’ call for dialogue and urged a prompt solution to the impasse, consistent with the Salvadoran constitution and El Salvador’s commitment to the Inter-American Democratic Charter.
